Job description

Our San Diego-based biotech firm is searching for a meticulous and imaginative technical writer to join our growing research and development division. As a contractor, you'll work directly with scientists, engineers, and software developers to create crystal-clear documentation, user manuals, and API references. You'll not only be explaining cutting-edge science but also streamlining workflows through superior technical communication.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with subject matter specialists to comprehend complex technical concepts.
  • Write, edit, and revise technical documentation such as user guides, API documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Produce high-quality diagrams, charts, and illustrations to enhance written content.
  • Ensure documentation adheres to industry standards and regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, HIPAA).
  • Participate in document review cycles and integrate feedback from diverse teams.
  • Maintain a central repository of documentation, keeping it organized, accessible, and current.
  • Explore innovative methods to present information, including video tutorials or interactive simulations.
  • Contribute to the style guide, improving clarity and consistency across all documents.

You’re the Right Fit If:

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, engineering, etc.)
  • You have a proven history of 3+ years in technical writing, ideally in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical domain.
  • You have experience documenting software applications and APIs.
  • You have a high proficiency with technical writing tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar).
  • You are able to analyze data, procedures, and other documentation to define problems with detailed written summaries.
  • You possess exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a laser focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and can work autonomously to deliver projects on time.
  • You're comfortable balancing multiple tasks and adapting to changing priorities.

Perks for Our Contract Technical Writer:

  • Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with expertise.
  • Remote work setup flexibility (option for occasional on-site work in San Diego).
  • Opportunity to expand your skill-set within the fast-moving biotech field.
  • Access to our company’s libraries and technical resources.
  • Possibility of conversion to a full-time role upon completion of successful contracts.
  • Be part of an impactful team focused on developing revolutionary scientific discoveries for the world.
