Job description

A thriving tech-focused firm in Port St. Lucie, FL seeks a detail-oriented technical editor with a passion for streamlining documentation and user assistance materials. We value precision, clarity, and a commitment to making complex information accessible to all users. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Meticulously review technical documents, including user manuals, API documentation, white papers, training guides, and online help resources.
  • Identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and formatting.
  • Ensure consistent use of terminology and style across all documentation.
  • Collaborate with technical writers, subject matter experts, and developers to resolve ambiguities and improve document accuracy.
  • Track and manage revisions using version control systems.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of style guides and editorial standards.
  • Format documents for print and online publication.
  • Suggest improvements to the overall clarity, organization, and effectiveness of technical documentation.
  • Manage project deadlines efficiently.
  • Help with other document types, when needed.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven background as a technical editor or copy editor, preferably in a software development environment.
  • Mastery of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with style guides (e.g., Microsoft Manual of Style, The Chicago Manual of Style).
  • Knowledge of technical terminology related to software, hardware, and networking.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
  • Strong organizational and time-management proficiencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A relentless commitment to error-free documentation.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, technical communication, or a related field.
  • Experience with markup languages such as XML or HTML.
  • Experience with documentation tools such as MadCap Flare or Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • A portfolio showcasing your editing skills.
